Flatte Help

Get up and running.

Install Flatte, create your first flats, master the Repair tools, and fix anything that gets in your way.

Installation

Flatte installs as a Photoshop panel.

  1. Close Adobe Photoshop if it's open.
  2. Open the Flatte installer file you received after purchase and follow the prompts.
  3. Start Photoshop.
  4. Open the panel from Plugins ▸ Flatte (older builds: Window ▸ Extensions ▸ Flatte).
  5. Dock the panel wherever you like it — it will stay there next time.
Works on macOS and Windows. See the Requirements section for supported Photoshop versions.

First use

Start from a Photoshop document with your line art on its own layer.

  1. Choose your ink layer. Select your line art layer, then set it as the ink layer in the Flatte panel.
  2. Create your flats. Click Create flats. Flatte separates your artwork into flat color regions on their own layer(s), leaving your inks untouched.
  3. Refine. Switch to Repair to join, split, recolor, or protect regions (see below).
  4. Color. Use each region as a clean area or selection and color your way.

Tips for the best flats

  • Keep linework mostly closed — small gaps are fine and can be fixed afterward.
  • Put line art on its own layer, separate from color.
  • Already have flats? You can skip straight to Repair.

Repair tools

Repair is where you clean up the areas that need a human eye. Switch the panel to the Repair tab to use these.

Join Combine

Merge separate pieces into a single flat when a region got split more than you wanted.

Split Separate

Draw a guide across an area to break it into two separate flats exactly where you want the division.

Color Recolor

Change a region's color, or try a whole palette, without reselecting anything by hand.

Protect Lock

Keep finished areas safe so they stay untouched while you continue repairing the rest.

Troubleshooting

The Flatte panel doesn't appear

Restart Photoshop and open it from Plugins ▸ Flatte. If it's still missing, reinstall the panel and confirm your Photoshop version meets the Requirements.

Colors leak between regions

This usually means the linework has gaps. Close the gaps in your ink layer, or use Split / Join in Repair to correct the affected regions.

Flats came out in one big piece, or too many tiny pieces

Use Split to separate an over-merged area, or Join to combine fragments back together.

I want to protect work I've already colored

Use Protect to lock finished regions before running further repairs.
